This research project is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It was the only application – out of the hundreds submitted to NIH – that was awarded to a Hawai‘i-based team of researchers. IDecide teaches teens important “life skills” such as how to talk to their parents and other students about altruistic behaviors, like becoming an organ donor, and how to follow health-protecting behaviors such as avoiding alcohol before the age of 21. It is a randomized clinical trial that utilizes several multi-media modes such as DVDs (featuring local actors), websites, e-mail, and text messaging.
